Timid, introverted, and rather unsure of himself, Petey Drinkell faces the world through his nineteen-year old eyes with a feeling of uncertainty.  At times he feels orphaned and abandoned, perhaps merely in need of guidance and a little bit of reassurance. These feelings confuse him, and he doesn’t quite understand the yearnings that he secretly harbors within his own heart. It is when Petey meets and falls in love with Matt Porter that everything begins to finally make sense to him. Matt is everything that Petey is not. He is filled with self-confidence and bravado. Matt is tall and masculine and athletic. He is a natural-born leader.

Puppy Love is the story of Matt and Petey. It is a love story, undeniably a romance, but by no means typical. It is a coming-of-age and coming-out story, but one in which sexual orientation is not the primary focus. Petey struggles with the issues generally associated with coming out as homosexual, yet he also grapples with his identity as submissive.

What do you do when you love someone who is truly superior to yourself in every meaningful way?  How do you feel, and what if these feelings are not what everyone tells you you're supposed to feel?  We are taught that every individual is equal, but what if you know, through experience, that this is not the case?  What if, in a society in which everyone is supposed to be a leader, you discover that your passion, your destiny, is to submit?

In Puppy Love, Petey Drinkell discovers the true nature of power, its role in sexual relationships, and his own role in the power structure.  Puppy Love is perhaps the world's first gay BDSM coming-of-age novel. This erotic epic is more than classic erotica; it challenges the fundamental assumptions we make about human relationships and democracy.

Puppy Love

the story of

Matt & Petey

Puppy Love is a story told in the first person narrative by a nineteen year old young man named Petey Drinkell. Petey and his older sister Kathie share an apartment together and have done so since their parents passed away a few years prior. Petey is rather shy and introverted, but he is a very likeable and endearing character. He is small, cute, and innocent. He's also gay.

Matt Porter is the opposite of Petey. He is athletic, tall, and handsome. He is confident and outgoing and possesses all of the qualities that Petey feels he himself lacks. The two attend the same community college, and they meet one day at a bus stop.

While on the bus, Petey is subjected to  harrassment and repeated taunting by two of his fellow classmates. After they exit the bus, the two assailants pull Petey aside and assault him. Matt oversees the incident and intervenes, rescuing helpless little Petey from the gay bashing.

This is only the beginning of a long and beautiful relationship. Over the course of forty-plus chapters, you will get to know this couple inside-and-out. Their relationship will go through several stages, and they will endure many challenges. They'll face excitement and sadness and dangers along the way, but one thing will always remain constant--their enduring love for one another.

Puppy Love introduces a wide range of interesting characters along the way, including Matt and Petey's best friends Alex and Drew. Carter is the boyfriend of Petey's sister Kathie. Matt's ex-girlfriend Tracey poses a possible threat to the relationship shared by Matt and Petey. Other friends and foes emerge as the story unfolds.

Those who have entered the world of Matt and Petey have enjoyed an experience of deep emotion and edge-of-your-seat page-turning excitement. Please enter this world with caution, though, for once there you may not wish to leave.

5.0 out of 5 stars Puppy Love is one of a kind, December 24, 2009

When I first came across this book, "Puppy Love," I had no idea what I was in for. I like to read stories that don't follow the "norm" of what people say I should be reading. I like to test the boundaries and explore. Wow, I was glad when my eyes caught this book. It's a story about 19 yr. old Petey Drinkel and his coming to terms with his sexuality while also trying to understand his inner needs to submit to others in his life. He meets the love of his young life, Matt Porter, who not only takes the role to protect the smaller boy from bullies but also teaches him, as well as himself, what the power of love is, what the power of a D/S relationship is about and how to be comfy in his own skin.

This is not your typical D/S book by any means, it does not come with chains, gags, leather and the like. To me it's as if the reader learns what the D/S dynamic is through Petey. He explains in detail his feelings, why he feels he is so submissive, and how he sees his "doms" role to him.

Petey has a very energetic outgoing personality among his friends, you can just feel the love in that boy. However, around outsiders, he's quiet, shy and so innocent you just want to be with him to keep others from hurting him. You'll be sure to cry with him, laugh with him and want to hug him as he discovers who he is and what it is to answer his true calling to be a submissive in a gay relationship to a very hot Matt, his master.

There's a lot of emotion here, and at times I found myself angry with the author for putting that boy in the situations he did, but it's a story, and without those scenes, there would be no story. Or, there wouldn't be a story as wonderful as this one...I wish it didn't end. I want more of PL and Petey and Matt....

Amber D: Well first i just have to say what an amazing story, and I can't wait for the next chapters to see where the boys go from here. Normally I stay away from the Dom/ sub Stories, but this one was so skillfully written, and had such great characters, that it just sucked me in, and i couldn't stop reading. You have a gift for making your readers feel everything your characters are going through, that is an awesome gift that many writers lack.

**************

Jay S: I just want to say that i have been reading your story for awhile, and it is amazing. Please continue. Also I just wanted to say that I love both Matt and Petey, and any way you make them is going to be good so just keep doing what you’re doing.

Shane: You got it just right. Perfect in fact. Never before have I connected so well with an "authoritarian" story like this. It portrayed the love that so complexly and beautifully developed between the two main characters. I found myself reading these stories no longer for imagery to get excited about (though you have a gift for that as well), but more so to follow and admire the development and growth of your characters and what they shared. And believe me, that is much more lasting.Others may criticize for this or that, but it is your story, and you will write it better than anyone else. And you have. You got it just right. Thank you for all of your effort and talent in creating this story to share.

Bobby W: Thank you for another chapter of Matt and Petey! I have told you before but I need to say it again that this story means more to me than I could express to you in mere words.   I am sorry if the comments others make about Matt not being dominant enough. To me its perfection.

Zach: OMG you are an awesome writer. Can’t wait for the next part. Thanks for the awesome story

**************

Joey: I have been up for the past 24 hours reading your story from the first chapter to chapter 5 of Puppy Love II. Man I have to tell you I have only been as touched by a story like yours a couple of time. I am very impressed with the stories, and I am so involved and in love with the characters My emotions have run the gambit. In chapter 5 of Puppy Love II, I feel as frazzle-brained and shocked as Petey is.

********

Phillip H: I love your stories. Puppy Love is just absolutely incredible. I love a story that makes me laugh, cry, be happy and sad and also turned on!! And you do all those things. Wow, you’re great man.

********

Dane: I very much enjoy reading "Puppy Love" installments. Wish they were a bit more frequent. You have earned a huge punishment for leaving me hanging this way on latest installment! Love the whole story so far. So much so, I just ordered a hard copy of your book "Dumb Jock" Keep it up.

********

Deb: I've absolutely loved your story.  I've followed it from when you first started writing it and I am so glad that you've been able to continue it.  I've read numerous stories in the Nifty Authoritarian section and there have only been three or four stories that have stayed with me and become my favorites.  Puppy Love is at the top of the list.  Anyway, loved the last chapter.  For me it was a total cliff hanger though (you are so good with those cliff hangers, very subtle but maddening), so hopefully we'll get to find out what happens soon? (hint, hint).

********

Jake W:   I am just writing you to let you know that I am really enjoying your work. There are many parts that I enjoy so I will not try to go into but just know that I am loving the story. I hope that you will continue to write them. Your new fan, Jake.

********

Ralph S: I wanted to compliment you on a great story.  I read Puppy Love 1 and have started II.  I hardly ever finish a story, but actually had a hard time reading this because I couldn't find enough time.  I finally spent most of Friday and part of Saturday reading it, so that should tell you how much I enjoyed it.  I was glad you continued with Matt, Petey, and the other guys.

********

Kobus: The story of the relationship between Matt & Petey had me in tears quite a few times while reading it, mostly because of the intense love Petey had for Matt that nobody, not being in the same situation, would ever be able to even remotely comprehend. When I started reading it, this story of yours really changed my life. It inspired me to accept who I am and to really be who I am in spite of what anyone might think and to not hide my feelings somewhere deep inside myself where they can’t be ever touched by anyone again for the fear of being hurt again. It inspired me to go out and say: “World, here I am. I’m me and I’m not gonna’ be pushed into the depths anymore by anyone not accepting me just as I am!! Thank You Jeff. Your story really inspired me in my life. I never would’ve thought that could even happen when I started reading the story. Keep in mind that this was the first ever authoritarian type story that ever touched me so deeply. I suppose it’s because of the deep love story it held.

********

Jason: I have only made it up to Puppy Love Series but I had to stop and write to you to Thank You Very Much for the tremendous effort you have put into this series. I only started reading it a couple of weeks ago after you posted the Puppy Love II series. I like so much about your writing style and plot development that I dont know where to begin but I will try.

First of all the character development to me is in a class by itself with only a handful of other writers on the Nifty site. Your development however is the strongest and most thorough of any of story I can remember because you take us inside the thoughts of Matt's pup so convincingly, its like I know this kid.

Secondly, you have not rushed the plot along and filled it with improbable scenes that quickly dissolve into sex with little appreciation for the angst and trepidation a kid like Petey must be feeling getting involved with a stud like Matt. I am only on chapter five because I want this series to not end so I am reading each chapter twice to make sure I understand whats going on and revel in you mastery of Petey's mind.

Third on my list is your theme choice. Domination and submission are my favorite subjects when it comes to gay fiction and never have I seen it handled so tactfully and skillfully. "Puppies dont collar their owners" was a line Matt replied in a off hand joking way when his pup offered to help Matt with his necklace. Most people would have appreciated the help from a boyfriend with that task but Matt sees the symbolism in the action and declines the help in a way that reinforces his ownership.

You obviously have a similar
fascination with the subject because you have left out nothing yet and you have managed to convey the inner struggles of Matt and his pup. The pup screws up and he gets punished when he calls Matt's cell phone when it was not an emergency. I honestly could feel his fear as
5pm
neared and Drew dropped him off and he had to wait for Matt to come punish him. Absolutely Amazing.

What prompted me to write was getting delayed for work this morning as I reread the scene where Matt takes his pup to the club and Petey is disrespectful to Ryan. I just wanted to cry because you wrote that scene so well. I could feel Petey's jealously rising, rudely interrupting Ryan until Matt took him to the bathroom. You made this scene sound perfect.

So please take encouragement from the knowledge that your stories are being well received and we are grateful that you take the time and energy to devote to this series.

********

Luke: Please continue. Their love is fu**ing amazing.

Anonymous: Just wanted to thank you for sharing your wonderful story-telling ability and writing talent on Nifty.  I am a 60 yr old very closeted grandfather who will never come out at this stage of my life.  Stories such as yours give me a wonderful glimpse into what might have happened in my life if I had gone another direction 40 years ago.  But, being gay just wasn't an option in my "world" back then.  In fact, gay meant "happy" back then.  I would have been just a dirty queer or pervert.  Guess I thought this was something I would outgrow...  :-)  and still be able to live a NORMAL life. I have just finished reading all of the chapters of Puppy Love and Puppy Love II and have loved every minute of it.

********

Joshua: Once I got started on the story I read the entire thing in about 2 day. I laughed, cried, and got the most massive hard on. I think what truly turned me on in the story is the love and devotion Matt and Pup had for each other. As soon as you started writing how Pup was arranging the "stand-off" to help Matt I started getting weepy. By the end of that chapter I was a mess. I really liked the incite into Matt and seeing it from his POV. It may be interesting to do that again and possibly with another character?!, Who would have thought an erotic story from Nifty could touch you?? Thank you for that!I hope that you can continue to find ways to keep this fresh and exciting! Again, thank you for spending so much of your time, energy, passion, and love to share with all of us. Ps. If this story ever ends, I hope you would consider publishing it. I know you would at least sell one copy!!!!

********

Gary: I really do like these young men.  They have a love for each other that is really one that all of us can fantasize about.  It is strong and real.  As a fan of your story, the only thing I would ask is that no matter what kind of trials and tribulations that you have these two face that they remain together and in love.  That is the romantic in me.  I think that Master/sub relationships, even if the the Alpha Male is truly dominant, that there can be the love that you portray.

********

Susana M: Thank you for such wonderful lovable characters. I am a heterosexual female who loves good romance stories. Your story crosses all sorts of lines and communities. A good story is a good story! I have recommended your story to many of my friends. Great job.

********

Cedric: What a great story you have written about Matt & Petey! I have been following your stories since the beginning. I can only say... keep up the good work. Are there really such great Master & Pup relationships in the world? Hmm.... :P

********

Michael: I must say this story is by far the best story I have ever read and like all writers and song writers and actors go there is one script or song that is what made them known to people for their hard work, and I think this is your story that will show what a brilliant writer you are. I will always be a fan, and I do hope you have this published. If you do, I will be first in line.

********

Jim C: Have been reading Puppy Love and must say that I like it very much.  I am glad that you decided to continue it.  I hope that you will not necessarily end it but continue the adventures much like a soap opera does....The characters are well drawn and depicted
